The importance of a well-drafted document devoid of any grammatical error, in whatever field it may be, cannot be stressed enough. All it takes to bring down the credibility of a reputed organization is a minor grammatical error on the landing page of its website. Though there are innumerable software packages available today that check content for grammatical and spelling errors, proofreading is best done manually.
Proofreading becomes all the more important prior to the presentation of theses, publishing a story or a book where the grammar, punctuation, and spelling, as well as other aspects of linguistics of the language used provides an insight into the author's command over the language. Having a post-graduate degree in English (Linguistics), I have been writing, editing and proofreading in the formal sector for the past 15 years and this is my first step towards freelancing.
I proofread manually, using computers only for the primary screening of the document for spelling errors and tracking the editing which I do in Microsoft Word and occasionally use the software White Smoke. My standard references for orthography are the Oxford Dictionary and Merriam-Webster Dictionary and their respective grammar styles which set the standards for the British English and American English. I proofread documents in respect of errors in spelling, typography, grammar, punctuation, sentence structuring and use of vocabulary.
A freelance proof-reader and editor based in India with a Master of English degree and specialize in English orthography and grammar. I also have a Master of Science in Physics and I am well conversant with the Microsoft Office Suite 2013 and WhiteSmoke. My expertise also extends to MLA and APA style formatting. My goal is to help you in creating a strong impression on your audience with a content having, to quote Bob Wootton, clarity, brevity, narrative and pace as axioms.
