The Outsourcing Definition
Most people familiar with the outsourcing definition often link it with another word, "privatization". These two business terms are related. In the case of the outsourcing definition, hiring vendors with specialty trades is the simplest explanation. For instance, in large companies with numerous departments that manage specific areas of the business such as accounting, technical service and production, outsourcing to a CPA, hi-tech systems or offsite production company can save company profits. The buyer and seller of outsourced services agree to a specified price for services as well as terms of the contract which usually includes scope of work to be performed, the duration of the work as well as the number of subcontracted employees who will perform the work.
The Difference Between Outsourcing and Offshoring
While an outsourcing definition is a form of privatization of a company's required services or products, offshoring is work that is performed outside of the company's country of origin. In this instance, the work may be performed by a foreign company after a contract is agreed to by the originating business. Offshoring involves hiring a company who provides employees to do service work such as customer service or tech service for phone, apparel, auto as well as environmental remediation consulting.
Crowdsourcing vs. Outsourcing
To define the distinction between outsourcing and crowdsourcing, it's must be said that crowdsourcing is a distant relative of outsourcing. In crowdsourcing, a specific issue, problem or development is proliferated among a large group who are charged with the responsibility of arriving at resolutions. In this way, the crowdsourcing owner entity is able to take advantage of a wider range of ideas and solutions. Crowdsourcing is similar to opinion polling. In much the same way that opinion polling requests specific opinions on products, services, political issues and is used as a marketing tool to achieve higher revenues, crowdsourcing also requires group input. Like opinion polling, crowdsourcing can be a paid or unpaid position.
To Recap The Definitions
Outsourcing is the simple act of engaging outside vendors to perform work done offsite. Offshoring carries this a step further by performing the duties outside of the country of business origin and crowdsourcing utilizes large groups that will formulate ideas, opinions and resolutions to business problems. Outsourcing and offshoring require some form of contract while crowdsourcing may be a collaborative business formula that increases product or service quality and customer base.
